Because going by your review, they don't seem to have a lot of other redeeming features. I am so _tired_ of stupid villains and stupid heroes that only exist apparently to be retarded or bright at the conveniently times to push along this plot the author is so convinced is nifty keen, but anyone can see coming from a mile out. I'm not even sure where to start with the typical abuse done to female protagonist, except to say that even I'm guilty of reading this kind of thing. One of my secret shames is reading Clive Cussler books, which is some kind of hallmark of this kind of horrific bad modern day pulp-action, but I think my immune system is finally going into shock over it. You know when early on in a book, the main female char is glad to have a 'man' along to carry her luggage, that it's a fatal sign. I'm not even sure I can accuse this on 'bad male writers', because I've seen some books by male writers that get things right, and a few by female writers that seem to get it so dreadfully wrong.
